Freescale’s new i.300-30 3G platform is the first dual-mode EDGE Class 12 capable, tri-band WCDMA / HSDPA, quad-band GSM 3G platform. Optimized for open operating systems such as Linux and Symbian, the i.300-30 platform enables flexibility for handset manufacturers globally. Also featured on the i.300-30 platform is high speed downlink packet access ( HSDPA ).

RF Leadership with i.300-30 .

The i.300-30 platform supports full non-compressed mode, up to three RF bands on WCDMA and four bands on GSM, including WCDMA operation on 850 MHz for U.S. or 800 MHz for Japan and 1900 MHz U.S. PCS. In addition, the platform supports 3.6 Mbps HSDPA WCDMA with a 5-code, 16-QAM HSDPA channel and a 384-Kbps transmit/receive (Tx/Rx) circuit switched channel. The supported
high-speed hardware assist searcher greatly improves standby battery life. Finally, it supports Class 10 (Class 12 hardware) EDGE GPRS with the transceiver using Freescale’s revolutionary polar architecture.

Components and Enhancers
At the heart of the i.300-30 platform is a set of highly integrated, low-power, high-performance integrated circuits (ICs) and a communications engine. The i.300-30 platform helps wireless products fully meet the WCDMA standard.

Baseband Processor
Designed to get products to market ahead of the 3G pack, the i.300-30 platform leverages Freescale’s industry-leading baseband expertise and is the first to integrate the advanced processing power of a SC140e digital signal processor (DSP) based on StarCore technology and an ARM11™ applications processor on CMOS90 technology. This hybrid architecture supports both dual and single core modems with the possibility of executing DSP code from external memory.

i.300-30 Transmit Modulator IC
This 3G, ultra-low noise, direct-launch modulator IC uses our advanced Silicon Germanium:Carbon (SiGe:C) bipolar complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (BiCMOS) process and supports WCDMA, GSM and EDGE. Its direct-launch
architecture provides low-power operation and easy multiband frequency planning in virtually all modes. RF filtering requirements are minimized through high signal-to-noise performance, while integrated voltage control oscillators (VCOs) help to lower the overall part count and cut costs.

Multiband GSM Transceiver IC
Experience the utmost in flexibility from this RF front-end IC, designed for use in GSM, DCS, PCS and EDGE multiband wireless products. To deliver superior high-frequency performance, it combines Freescale’s mainstream RF BiCMOS technology with SiGe:C technology, providing high gain, low current and low noise for sensitive RF applications.

The IC integrates LNAs, mixers, baseband filters and Tx/Rx VCOs onto a single chip. This highly integrated front-end IC helps to lower both design and development costs.

Multiband WCDMA Direct Conversion Receiver IC
This low-power component meets the need for a single-chip WCDMA receiver. Its innovative all-in-one design combines direct conversion mixers, baseband amplifiers and filters, and more. The result is a comprehensive WCDMA receiver that can minimize the product’s form factor and cost.

WCDMA/GSM/EDGE Digital Interface IC
This low-power, CMOS mixed-signal interface IC is designed to dramatically increase the flexibility of wireless products. It supports GSM, EDGE and WCDMA services. Both medium paths (GSM and EDGE) and wideband paths (WCDMA) are optimized for non-compressed mode (simultaneous reception) and compressed mode.

Designed specifically for the direct-launch transmitter architecture, it includes a full range of support circuitry, such as dual-protocol clock synthesizers, sequence manager, SPI and more.This IC helps to lower product cost with on-chip digitalfilters, reducing the external component count.

Multimode Synthesizer
This CMOS IC combines three high-performance fractional-N phase-locked loops (PLLs) with fast-locking and low-noise performance and includes a single reference clock and a
programmable clock generator. This locates the required clocks within the IC for GPS, Bluetooth wireless technology, WCDMA, GSM and any additional accessories. Once again, this helps reduce end-product costs with integrated synthesizers on-chip.

WCDMA and GSM/EDGE PA Modules
These modules provide cost-effective, comprehensive power amplification, power
detection and harmonic filtering with enhanced efficiency for GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA. Our Indium Gallium Phosphide heterojunction bipolar transistor (InGaP HBT) technology provides high-efficiency, high-performance, cost-effective power amplifiers that can operate with a single voltage power supply.

Power Management and Audio Interface IC
Fully programmable via the SPI bus, this SMARTMOS™ IC integrates audio control, switches, power supplies and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to provide power management functions for the i.300-30 platform. The audio section includes microphone and speaker amplifiers, a voice codec and a stereo digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The IC provides reference and supply voltages and is compatible with multiple battery types.
